In 2025, TEDxVUB will launch its first-ever edition under the inspiring theme “Never Say Never”. This theme pays tribute to resilience, to those who dare to challenge the impossible, and to the moments that redefine what is possible. Emma Rheel is a post-doc researcher at the VUB, where she investigates pediatic pain. Her research examines the causes of chronic pain in children and how distraction, education and parental support can shape their pain experiences and resilience.

Lesley De Cruz is a Professor at the VUB. She is very active in different fields focused on making science more inclusive. She serves as this year’s WATS Ambassador, championning women in STEM and bringing forward voices often left out of the conversation.

Andres Algaba is coordinator in Gen AI at the VUB. He analyses how large language models (LLMs° can move beyond assistanc to actively derive scientific discovery. His work bridges algorithmic creativity. His work bridges algorithmic creativity with human insight. Exploring how AI can take on roles in experiment design, analysis and hypothesis-generation.

When the Itinerary Changes: Finding Ourselves on Unplanned Roads
Amin Khorari studied Business Engineering at VUB and now started a new life in a new city, building a life far from the path he once imagined. His journey; delayed studies, job rejections, travel detours and unexpected opportunities, taught him that progress isn’t always linear and resilience often comes from unplanned reroutes.
