The Next Chapter : What if?
Following last year’s call to “Never Say Never”, this edition of TEDxVUB invites us to take the next step: “What If?” Where we previously celebrated resilience and the courage to defy limits, we now turn our focus to the power of imagination and possibility.
“What If?” begins with curiosity. It is about leaning into the unknown, stepping beyond the familiar, and allowing questions to guide us toward new perspectives. It is the moment when hesitation meets boldness, when doubt transforms into discovery, and when a single idea can ignite a spark that reshapes how we see the world.

This theme celebrates human creativity and innovation, the willingness to ask bold questions, to imagine futures that do not yet exist, and to embrace the uncertainty that often leads to breakthrough thinking.

Lesley De Cruz is a Professor at the VUB. She is very active in different fields focused on making science more inclusive. She serves as this year’s WATS Ambassador, championning women in STEM and bringing forward voices often left out of the conversation.

Nicole Cabezas Loja is a VUB student and UN Youth Delegate whose work focuses on human rights and social justice. Through her role, she advocates for the protection and promotion of children’s and youth rights at both national and international levels, ensuring that the perspectives of young people are represented in global decision-making.

When the Itinerary Changes: Finding Ourselves on Unplanned Roads
Amin Khorari studied Business Engineering at VUB and now started a new life in a new city, building a life far from the path he once imagined. His journey; delayed studies, job rejections, travel detours and unexpected opportunities, taught him that progress isn’t always linear and resilience often comes from unplanned reroutes.
